Official Statement from the World ITF Taekwon-Do Council
The World ITF Taekwon-Do Council will continue the legacy of General Choi Hong Hi, teaching ITF Taekwon-Do the way he taught us. We will follow his syllabus, including the time requirements for promotions to a higher Black Belt rank. We will recognise certificates from new member groups as long as the certificates are signed by authentic, world recognised, Taekwon-Do organisations.
All future promotions must meet the following promotion criteria:
1st to 2nd Degree 18 months
2nd to 3rd Degree 2 years
3rd to 4th Degree 3 years
4th to 5th Degree 4 years
5th to 6th Degree 5 years
6th to 7th Degree 6 years
7th to 8th Degree 7 years
The promotion from 8th Degree to 9th Degree will have No Time Limit. The promotion to Grand Master will be awarded for services given to assist in the dissemination of ITF Taekwon-Do.
